Star Captain steers his ship to victory in A2 race at Swindon
A ship’s captain often leads his crew to victory on the high seas, while a speedy greyhound sprints to a strong finish at the race track. Star Captain may not be the captain of a ship,
but he certainly knows how to dominate at the Swindon Greyhound Stadium. His dominance led him to a big victory in one of three 480m A2 races on the schedule on Friday 26 November.
Starting from trap one, Star Captain, the 5-2 favourite, crowded at the first bend, but quickly rebounded to lead the run in and make the top spot his in 29.68. Faha Flight (7-2) lost
1¼ lengths after crowding first. However, she briefly held the lead afterward, and went on to finish second in 29.78.
Third place belonged to Show Style (4-1). After moving quickly away, she crowded first and second en route to a 29.86 finish that was 1 length out of second place. Attykitt Lane (4-1)
experienced some difficulty in this race, as he badly crowded the second bend. He lost 3¼ lengths as a result, finishing fourth in 30.12.
Forest Ted (4-1) was the fifth-place finisher. He went wide and moved slowly away, but had some problems at the second bend, where he crowded and stumbled badly. This cost him 5¼ lengths,
giving him a 30.54 finish. Moores Creek (4-1) went wide, moved slowly away, and was forced to badly check first. He went on to finish in 30.90, 4½ lengths out of fifth place.
Lisnakill King (11-4) was the king of the next A2 race. He went wide after a bounding start from trap five, and led near the finish line to earn first place in 29.70. Second place went
to 2-1 favourite Unknown Biffo, who soon led near the finish line. His time of 29.72 placed him a neck’s length away from the win.
Penrhiw Ace (5-1) started well and ran on to complete the race in 29.75, which gave him third place. He was a neck behind Unknown Biffo. Despite having had a clear run, Ile Ave He (4-1)
went wide and finished in fourth place with a time of 30.01, which was 3¼ lengths out of the top three.
Same As That (7-2) also had a clear run, but failed to take the lead. As a result, he finished fifth in 30.07, ¾ lengths behind fourth place. The sixth and final position belonged to Mays
Commet (6-1). Her stumbled start cost her 2¼ lengths and gave her a 30.25 finish.
Greyhound racing returns to the Swindon Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 27 November. The first race of the evening will begin at 19:25.
