Star Guitar to face the biggest test of the 2011 season in the LA Champions Day Classic
It has been a dream run for the 6-year-old Brittlyn Stable owned horse, Star Guitar, with four wins in as many starts and now he will be looking to extend his perfect season by taking the Louisiana Champions Day Classic for the third consecutive time.
The $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic is run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles and the race has reeled in seven horses to compete for the purse as it is restricted for 3-year-olds and up.
Trained by, Albert M. Stall Jr. the son of Quiet American, out of mare Minit Towinit by Malagra, Star Guitar will have his biggest and the toughest test of the season at Fair Grounds race course on 10 December, 2011.
Star Guitar was able to land the 2009 edition of the LA Champions Day Classic and the 2010 edition of the race as well, but both times he wasn’t challenged that much and found it easy to go past rivals on both occasions.
This time around the 3-year-old Don’t Get Mad colt, Populist Politics, is ready to go in the LA Champions Day Classic which would certainly spice things up when the two favourites are expected to lock horns come 10 December.
“The Classic may turn out to be a real ‘Rumble in the Jungle,’” Star Guitar's trainer Al Stall Jr. said recently.
“Everything seems to be on track for us,” he added. "But Populist Politics is a nice looking horse, too. The Classic has been kind of a ‘ho-hum’ affair for Star Guitar the last two years. Maybe with Populist Politics in there, we’ll bring a little more excitement
to it on Saturday.”
Thomas M. Amoss trained Populist Politics is coming off a win in the Mr. Sulu Stakes at about 1 mile and 70 yards at Fair Grounds on 24 November, 2011, under jockey J Graham.
By Souvenir Copy mare Cedar Summer, Populist Politics covered the distance in 1 minute and 42.43 seconds while he stood third in his previous start, in the Grade 2 Super Derby to winner Prayer for Relief and runner up Awesome Bet.
