Im so sick of all the businesses saying their green. Im sitting outside the Starbucks located at the Sacramento Airport. I got a cup of coffee and noticed they had the sink running full blast and nothing was in the sink. I asked them what they were doing running so much water down the sink and they said they rinse things off. I have been sitting here for 1 hour and the sink has never shut off and the employees have not rinsed anything in the sink. There is a manager and 2 employees working.

How can Starbucks call themselves green! ? What would you do...its not like I can call corprate. I just took some pictures but it doesnt show the time that has passed.

Americans are so wasteful. There are 6000 children that die each day from no clean water and most 3rd world children live on less than a pint of water a day for all their needs. And I just bought a 4$ coffee from these people ! Im mad!

  1. well then go help those other countries. you can write corporate. or get an organization involved.

  2. It's their money, if they want to waste it that's their problem.  If you don't like the way they do business, take your money somewhere else.

  3. I believe that is their over all goal, but some times they may not actually know what is going on. a well written letter to the store letting them know the next letter is to higher management might help.

  4. I agree with you there!!!

  5. I am glad to know lots of people are helping th enviroment.

hmm it seems bad. I think you should give them suggestions.

you know like if they are going to rinse things off, make sure they are rinsing right away. or if they are trying to do something like I don't know, clean coffe cups, ask them to at least do it with  less water running. it helps :]

  6. You have to remember what the American Philosophical Perspective really is in spite of all the blathering conversation on this subject. Roll down the top on the convertible and turn up the heat. Why should our Lawmakers think and differently? We are the dopes that elect them. Very little ever of any importance ever gets done in this country until its too late. I do not expect this energy problem to be any different. Just look around. This is not the first empire that has ever collapsed and it will not be the last. If this is not bad enough its the way we handle everything else in our economy.

  7. Call the corporate offices! They may not be able to go after the individual owner....but they can WATCH the water bills and make decisions about withdrawing the franchise from what they observe! NEVER shut up...keep telling it  as it is! You GO!!!

  8. umm... totally agree.  I'd mail the main starbucks corp.  COMPLAIN keep an eye on it

  9. Definitely call corporate.  That is called social responsibility --and it is a shame that they do that.  I think corporate would WANT to know... don't you?

  10. hey hey hey chill out!!! if you see them dumping chemicals in the water or throwing trash on the side of the road thats one thing... Keeping green to me is using LESS chemicals, everyone uses Bleach, ammonia, etc etc to clean around there house/work office etc. these chemicals populate the environment. Simply running water has nothing to do with keeping green.. chill out!!!!!!!!!! and have a good flight :)

  11. tell ppl and get them to boycott them

    good luck

  12. Call corporate. They can read a water bill.

  13. No offence, but I think the only damage that running tap was doing was to Starbucks water bill.

  14. Don't buy starbucks.....

Not just Americans are wasteful FYI.

  15. starbucks trying to be green????? yeah right!!!!!!(sarcastic)

    they're really wasteful..........

  16. i don't blame you for being mad, it would tick me off too,

  17. I agree with you that is a massive waste of money & resources.   No wonder Starbucks is so expensive.

On the topic of travel methods, a 550 seat 747 jet gets the same fuel economy PER SEAT as a five passenger sedan.  The difference is the plane wouldn't fly unless it was at least 80% full.  Cars are rarely over 20% full (1.2 persons per vehicle average in North America).  But the plane dumps exhaust and even unburned fuel in the high atmosphere where it does the most harm.

Best alternative: use the train, it is 5X more efficient than travelling by air or by car.

  18. No offense, but to be honest, complaining about environmental issues while waiting to get on an airplane is like complaining about animal rights as you walk into KFC.

Keep fighting the good fight, and I appreciate that you are as concerned as you are, I just hope that you continue to learn and reduce your own impact at the same time as you hunt around for problems around you.
