Starcase to basement in townhomes.?

Why dont they use spiral staircases leading to basement? Spiral staircase saves space unlike the regular slant staircase.

A spiral staircase cannot be used as a main staircase.  It can only be used if there is a second set of stairs going from one elevation to another.  Think about trying to move a couch down a spiral staircase.  Not a lot of fun, if even possible.  Hope this helps.
