Starch is made up of long chains of glucose molecules. The chains can be branched.

Starch is a storage molecule in plant cells.

Starch is indicated by testing with iodine. A blue-black colour is given.



Glycogen has a similar structure to starch. It is formed in animal cells. It has many more branches than starch

Starch is a complex carbohydrate and you find it in bread,cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beans, peas, lentils and nuts.  Non-starchy carbohydrates are mostly fruit and vegetables with a few exceptions.  The complex carbohydrates in most fruit and vegetables are cellulose and the simple carbohydrates in fruit are mostly fructose.
