The town of Stare Jablonki in the Mazury region of Poland is ready to feature the men’s matches today, Tuesday, July 26, which will take palce from July 26 to 31.
The SWATCH FIVB Mazury Orlen Grand Slam is a double-gender event, where women’s competition started off successfully on Monday. The men’s tournament is supposed to run with a one-day gap from the women’s matches. However, the competition formula will be
same for both genders. The female Country Quota playoffs were played yesterday, when teams from Germany and USA competed for slots in the Qualification Tournament. Quite similarly, the opening day of the men’s competition will stage the Country Quota Playoffs.
Following fourteen tandems from Brazil, Germany, and Brazil will have to go through the Country Quota stage:
Bruno Oscar Schmidt/ Joao Luis Pianca Maciel - Brazil Rhuan De Oliveira Ferramenta/ Rhooney de Oliverira Ferramenta - BR Thiago Santos Barbosa/ Harley Marques Silva - BR Markus Bockermann/ Mischa urbatzka – Germany Sebastian Dollinger/ Stefan Windscheif – Germany Matthew Fuerbringer/ Nicholas Lucena – USA Casey Patterson/ Bradley Keenan – USA
Three successful teams of CQs will advance to the next round. Brazilian CQs are likely to be tough as three duos will be competing for one slot in the Qualification Tournament. A total of 35 teams from various countries of the world are already confirmed
for the Qualification Tournament. Hence, the second stage of the Mazury Orlen Grand Slam will played among 38 men’s beach volleyball teams. Following the set formula of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB), the competition will enter the Main-Draw
stage on third day.
Eight team will be promoted to the Main-Draw via Qualification Tournament of Wednesday, while 24 teams are already in the Main-Draw on account of their better ranking points. Hence, the crucial Main-Draw stage will be opened with 32 teams. The double-elimination
bracket in the main-draw will further shorten the number teams to just 8, which will play the quarter-finals. The last two days of the tournament will feature semi-finals and medal-matches. Eventually, the top four positions will be revealed.
The dynamic duo of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers from America are the defending champions of the Mazury Orlen Grand Slam. They defeated Germany’s Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the previous edition of the tournament in 2010. Brazilian Marcio Araujo
and Ricardo Santos clawed their way to the third slot and earned the status of a bronze-medallist team at the 2010 Mazury Orlen Grand Slam.
American duo of Dalhausser/ Rogers will open the 2011 Mazury Orlen Grand Slam on Wednesday in the Main Draw. Likewise, the runner-up team from last year, German Reckermann and Brink, will also play their first match in the Main-Draw. Bronze-medallist Brazilian
