Starlight Magic succeeds in the $200,000 Fleet Treat Stakes at Del Mar
Starlight Magic made a great comeback in the $200,000 Fleet Treat Stakes at Del Mar on 28th July, 2012, where she broke through the wire first and won the race by a whisker.
Paired with rider Rafael Bejarano, the three-year-old claimed the victory in the seven furlong race as she defeated, Warren’s Amber, by half-length. The third place was secured by Willa B Awesome, who is under the wing of Walther Solis.
The winner, who is trained by Mark Glatt, raced with the second highest weight of 123 pounds, but performed brilliantly. The high-weight in this event was Willa B Awesome, who was ridden by Martin Pedroza.
The daughter of Marino Marini, foaled by mare Star’s Millennium, completed the race in 1 minute and 23.57 seconds.
Starlight Magic definitely has the potential to be a star filly. Right now, her record stands at 4-1-1 in nine starts and has $322,900 to her name. If she continues to perform in the same manner, she is lining herself up for many grand victories.
The sophomore toned up for this, considering she finished fifth in the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park on 23rd June, 2012.
The future plans of the Cory Wagner owned runner has not been decided, but chances are that she will take a shot at the $100,000 Torrey Pines Stakes which will be held at Del Mar on 2nd September, 2012 at about 1 mile.
Rider Rafael Bejarano is also having a particularly good week, since this wasn’t his only victory at Del Mar. On 27th July 2012, the rider landed another victory when he guided the Bob Baffert trained, Richard’s Kid, to victory
in the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap over 1 ½ miles.
The duo completed the race in 2 minutes and 29.22 seconds, and defeated, Worth Repeating, who was paired with rider Mike Smith. The third place was taken by Balladry with jockey Joseph Talamo aboard.
On 26th July, 2012, the talented rider mounted the Bob Baffert trained, Coil, and claimed the seven furlong-Allowance Optional Claimer at Del Mar.
