Starlin Castro awaits the All-Star Game results – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro who leads the National League short-stops with his 93 hits is not sure if he will make it to the All-Star Game. The multi-talented young player has maintained a striking .301 batting average since the start of the season.
All the same, in the National League, Castro’s slugging percentage stands at third, which is a rare achievement for the young player. Not only that, he has the capability to improve it.
That is something that the team manager acknowledges duly.
"I think Castro is one of the young players who come around once in a while, and they can be as good as they want to be," Cubs' manager Dale Sveum said Friday about the team’s young short-stop who is bracing himself for bigger targets.
The team manager does not stop there. He has expectations from the player considering the talent Castro possesses.
Dale Sveum said, "The ceiling is very high, but it's still up to those individuals to make a difference on an everyday basis -- and not just as a hitter, but as a player and a winning hitter, and always making a difference in a ballgame to win ballgames."
Castro’s rival to get to the All-Star Game is none other the St. Louis Cardinals Rafael Furcal. To get past him, the player has to redouble his efforts.
In one of the recent votes, it was Furcal who stood first while Castro came third. However, nothing can be said with certainty at this stage. Everything will be clear by Sunday as to whether Castro will be able to make it to the All-Star on behalf of his team.
One of the things that Sveum had advised Castro in the start of season was to grade himself daily.
“He doesn't have a 10, but at least he's been good in games for the most part," Sveum said.
Where does Castro grade himself? He has not responded this question. However, from the performance that he has exhibited so far, it seems he is pretty confident of doing what he expects himself, and his team from him this season.
