Starlin Castro of the Chicago Cubs apparently in trouble – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ short-stop Starlin Castro finds himself in a predicament that he might not have anticipated. Reports reveal that he was questioned by the police on Thursday over the allegation that he had sexually assaulted a woman last year.
The alleged incident of sexual assault that had occurred in September 2011 echoed in Chicago on Friday when the player showed up in the Grand Ballroom. Although it was cheers that greeted the short-stop, lurking somewhere was the buzz of this allegation
that the player will be looking to extricate himself.
One of the senior players of the club, the outfielder Alfonso Soriano, said he had advised Castro to be careful given the fact that he is young and famous. He stated that given the fact that he is young, some people will try to take advantage of it.
"Castro is like my kid," Soriano said Friday at the Cubs Convention. "He lived with me for three, four months. Sometimes when you're famous and young, you don't know who will be good for you and who will be bad for you. What happened with Castro, I know
he didn't do that because I know him. He's young, he's got the talent, and some people try to take advantage of that."
Much as the nature of the allegation is serious, Castro did not show panic, saying on Friday that he has been fully cooperating with the police. Due to the sensitivity of the matter and the ongoing investigation, Castro will not speak much about it.
"I personally, and through my attorneys, have fully cooperated with the police in this matter," Castro said in the statement issued by the Cubs on Friday.
For now, what is reassuring for both him and the club no charge has been made against him. He has only been questioned by the police. Castro commented that he understood that being the member of this club meant being a good citizen off the field.
Although it is indeed a tough time for the young player, he has got full moral support of the team members. In the days to come, the club hopes, everything will be cleared for both the player and the team.
