Starlin Castro ready to shine in the All-Star Game – MLB News
When the 83rd Major League Baseball All-Star Game kicks off on Tuesday, July 10, there will be a lot of players under critical scrutiny and inspiring the excitement of the fans. Among them is Starlin Castro, the 22-year-old Chicago Cubs player who has made it to the All-Star Game for the second consecutive year.
The player, like all others, is looking forward to the game. However, unlike his team-mate Bryan LaHair, who is immensely excited, Castro is maintaining his calm and composure, going with less excitement one sees in the young players.
He feels great, it goes without saying. But the focus remains the big game and representing the Chicago Cubs. His entire energy is directed to making the team stronger and being able to help them stay up in the Division.
With that, Castro wants the representation of the team in the All-Star Game. That is what gives him more motivation.
"I feel great," Castro said. "I feel really, really good because back-to-back years in the All-Star Game is kind of my goal. Being in the All-Star Game every year, that's why I'm working really, really hard because I want to represent my team every year in the All-Star Game.”
There is a lot that this player can take pride in. For now, he stands seventh in the League in stolen bases with 16.
Appearing in 85 games so far, Castro has had 344 at-bats, scoring 41 runs with 43 RBIs to his credit. The young player has also hit seven home-runs so far with a slugging percentage of .422, having maintained a .291 average.
His career average is .301 in the 368 games that he has played so far. Given the consistency that has become his trademark, remaining a permanent part of the Cubs, Castro will be centre of attention in Tuesday’s big game.
He was the youngest Cubs’ player last year to make it to the Midsummer Classic. It does not end there. He also remains to be the first short-stop of the Cubs to be a part of two consecutive All-Star Games after Don Kessinger who did it in 1968-72.
