Starlin Castro shines as Chicago Cubs defeat Cincinnati Reds 12-8 - MLB Update
Chicago Cubs’ short-stop, Starlin Castro had an outstanding day with the bat as he went 3-for-4 with an average of .308 and struck three RBIs including four runs in the Cubs’ 12-8 victory against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati
on September 12.
Cubs executed well as they blasted three quick runs during the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Aramis Ramirez drove a double-run shot towards deep left-field and Castro added a single run. The second run for the Cubs was taken by Reed Johnson when Alfonso
Soriano bunted a single-run drive towards left-field.
Geovany Soto hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to short-stop position and Jeff Baker added the third run. Later on, Marlon Byrd got out to second base and Soriano occupied third base to end the first inning. Reds’ batters also smashed three runs during
the third inning to tie the game 3-3. Jeff Francisco hit a solo homer towards right-field and Brandon Phillips homered to left-field. Dontrelle Willis scored the third or tie run for Reds.
Cubs went ahead 5-3 by posting two runs in the third inning. Baker homered towards right-field to add the first run. Byrd completed a second run when Soto doubled to deep left-centre. Then, Soto got out to third base at the end of third inning. Cubs blasted
three runs in the fourth inning to advance their lead 8-3. Darwin Barney scored a single run when Castro bunted a double-run shot to deep right-field and Rodrigo Lopez occupied third base.
The second and third runs were taken by Castro and Johnson when Soriano doubled towards left-field and Ramirez advanced to third base to end the fourth inning. Cubs scored two runs during the fifth inning while Reds posted one run to cut their deficit 10-4,
at the bottom of fifth inning. The score-board advanced to 11-5 at the end of sixth inning.
In the eighth inning, Chicago contributed one run and Reds’ batters added two runs to their respective score-card to reduce their lead 12-7. Castro posted the last run for the Cubs when Johnson singled off centre-field. Conversely, Yonder Alonso scored one
run when Francisco was ground out to first base. During the ninth inning, Phillips scored a single run to end the game 12-8 when Joey Votto doubled to deep right-field.
Consequently, Cubs led off the four-game series 1-0 after defeating the Reds convincingly.
