Starlin Castro’s double RBIs help Chicago Cubs edge past Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 – MLB Update
Chicago Cubs’ short-stop, Starlin Castro showed an extraordinary performance with the bat as he hit two RBIs and went 3-for-5 in the Cubs’ 5-4 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field, Chicago on June 14.
In the first two innings of the game, the batters were unable to put runs on the score-board and got out at different field positions. At the bottom of the second inning, Geovany Soto was struck-out looking and Jeff Baker lined out to centre-field.
The Brewers opened their scoring account in the third inning by adding two runs and got a 2-0 lead. Ryan Braun singled to left centre-field and Rickie Weeks posted one run. The second run was taken by Nyjer Morgan when Casey McGehee hit a grounder towards
short-stop.
During the fourth inning, the Brewers took a 3-0 lead when Prince Fielder hit a sacrifice fly to left-field and Yovani Gallardo scored one run. Fifth and sixth inning passed without any run as the pitchers maintained their line. The pitchers raised the momentum
of their teams by mixing the curveballs with the fast ones.
On the other side, the Cubs got off the mark in the seventh inning and reduced their lead 3-1 when Soto struck a one-run homer (370 feet) towards left-field. Eighth inning went full of score as the Brewers added one at the top while the Cubs blasted three
runs at the bottom of the eighth inning.
Weeks doubled to left-field and Jonathan Lucroy posted one run for the Brewers. Kosuke Fukudome and Castro both contributed two runs while Aramis Ramirez hit a solo homer (378 feet) towards left-field to complete a three-run campaign. The game levelled 4-4
at the end of the eighth inning.
The Cubs’ manager, Mike Quade said of some errors committed by his team, “We made some mistakes early and didn't do ourselves any favors. There were about a half-dozen plays and things I saw that I'm not very happy about and they d**n near cost us. But they
kept playing.”
Ninth inning went without any score for both teams, so an additional 10th inning was given to break the tie runs. The Cubs went ahead 5-4 when Castro singled to right-centre and Tony Campana posted a single run.
