Starmount Jake wins an Open Race for K.A. Harris in a thriller at Belle Vue
In a 470 metre Open Race (OR) at Belle Vue, Starmount Jake, trained by K A Harris, bagged a great victory on January 5, 2012.
After starting the race from trap number one, he covered the distance in 27.98 seconds, winning the cash prize of £150.
Starmount Jake’s starting price was 3 to 1 and therefore, he was certainly one of the strongest participants.
There were two major surprises in the sprint.
The first one was that Wee Ellsie, who had a starting price of 9 to 2, secured the second position with her emphatic run.
It was a dead heat between the top two, as the runners-up finished the race just 0.02 seconds behind the winner.
Trained by S Mason, Wee Elsie began the show from trap number two, and finished the party in 28.00 seconds.
The second big shocking news for the greyhound racing lovers was the embarrassing defeat of Valentia Zig.
The son of Zigzag Stewart out of Valentia Show, was tagged as the banker before the start of the sprint.
However, he could not live up to the expectations, finishing the race at the fourth position.
His starting price was 2 to 1, but he performed far below his weight, covering the preset distance in 28.13 seconds.
It was a shocking result for Valentia Zig's fans and connections, since the hound was sent off as the 2 to 1 favourite to win the race.
Let’s not forget the number-three position greyhound, Bellamore Lad.
The son of Droopys Maldini out of Longton Queen, secured the third position after a close contest with Valentia Zig.
He managed to end up among the top three by beating Valentia Zig by a very small margin of 0.01 seconds.
His starting price was 9 to 4, breaking from trap number six.
The last two positions went to Ballymac Zigic and Vatican Hamish, respectively.
The latter covered the distance in 28.44, whereas Ballymac Zigic finished the race second last, entered at a starting price of just 10 to 1.
The race was full of thrill and excitement and following a comprehensive win, Starmount Jake has definitely emerged as one of the top hounds to watch out for this year.
