Stars Shone Bright for Robert Kubica at Spa
Robert Kubica is much pleased as he returns from the season’s thirteenth race that placed him third on the podium. Despite making two errors, he has been able to bag fifteen points on the classical as well as merciless track of Spa.
Kubica admitted his mistakes and said that as he entered the second lap through Eau Rouge, he saw McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, who was leading as well as going wide, therefore he went wide as well. He added that at the same time he tried to make apex as well so that he may not lose speed. However, he wasn’t able to keep control over the car and lost it completely, first to the left side and latter to the right.
But, still he was lucky for being able to continue although he lost a position to Jenson Button, the other McLaren driver. As Kubica restarted his car again he had a poor grip, his wheels got locked, first the fronts and then the rears. Although, Formula One is all about speed and a single error could not only claim the race position but also claim the life of the driver or others on track but the Polish driver had all his stars shinning bright on the race day as he was able to survive yet another major mistake.
As he pulled for a pit, he stopped his car in a shockingly poor manner and overshot his mark. This mistake cost him his second place thus allowing Mark Webber of Red Bull to get back on track a place ahead of him. On this, Kubica said that the track as well as pit stop was very slippery due to heavy rain fall. There were a number of controls which he had to change on his steering wheel right then so he got distracted while doing that and this caused the mistake to occur.
He further added, “When I looked up, it was past the braking point, I locked up the front wheels and collided with some of the mechanics. Well, it was a very fortunate day for everyone at the pit stop as no one got hurt.” On the team’s overall performance, he said, "This is a great result for the team after a weekend when we were competitive in every session. Nobody was expecting us to be at this level in Spa, so I think we can be pleased with the work we have done."
The team currently stands at fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of one hundred and twenty three points under their belt. They stand one place behind Mercedes GP that had been able to bag one hundred and forty six points so far. For Robert Kubica, best ending of the season was at the Australian Grand Prix where he ended at second place. With thirteen races of the season already gone, he stands at seventh place in the Drivers’ Championship, being able to bag a total of one hundred and four points.
