Question:

Stars move and then go back?

Lately when I look at the night sky, stars in some patches will move a a small distance in different directions and then go back to where they should be.

Some will move while others will stay still, e.g. out of a grouping of 6 stars, 4 will move a few centimetres whilst the others will remain stationary.

Then i will look at other areas of the sky and they will not move and then look at another area and a few will.

I feel like i am seeing where they are going or were a few hours earlier and their path of movement in the night sky

Whats the go?

  1. Sounds like what happens when you cross your eyes.  You may have a condition known as 'lazy eye'.  I would see an eye doctor.

  2. It's illusory. In other words, it's all in your head.

If you saw a visible shift, then the star would be moving light-years in seconds. Needless to say this is totally impossible.

Not if what he saw weren't stars.
