Stars shine in 2012 NHL All-Star Game as Team Chara wins 12-9 over Team Alfredsson -NHL Update
The players from all over the league definitely managed to exceed fan expectations by putting on a wild show in the 2012 Tim Hortons National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game on Sunday night, January 29, 2012, at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada.
New York Rangers and Team Chara’s right winger, Marian Gaborik, wowed the 20,000 plus sold-out crowd by picking up three goals in the contest, which was an amazing feat by the player, making him the All-Star Game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
"You can't ask for anything better," team captain, Zdeno Chara, said. "We want to enjoy ourselves, have fun, and most of all we want to put on a good show."
Team Alfredsson might have led the competition when it came to the Skills Competition, but Team Chara managed to show off some impressive skills, taking the match 12-9, by scoring six goals in the final period alone.
Both teams were levelled after the first period as Marian Gaborik picked up two goals straight away along with one from Evgeni Malkin on an assist by Calgary Flames captain, Jarome Iginla, putting Team Chara ahead by 3-0 midway through the opener.
The Canadians answered back as Ottawa’s, Jason Spezza, and Vancouver Canucks’, Henrik Sedin, potted two straight while New York Islanders’ top rookie, John Tavares, capped of the period with an equaliser, all within 3:30 after being down 3-0.
"We have a lot of fun out there," said Team Alfredsson goalie and assistant captain, Henrik Lundqvist. "A lot of times you might forget because it's a lot of pressure, and you put a lot of pressure on yourself, but this weekend is all about the game of hockey
and having fun with it. So we've been enjoying ourselves, and I hope the fans felt the same way."
Gaborik got his hat trick with his third in the opening two minutes of the second period while Joffrey Lupul and Patrick Kane added two more for Team Chara.
Jason Pominville triggered the Team Alfredsson scoring spree as Daniel Alfredsson added two straight hoping for a hat trick which was killed off by Kane.
Phil Kessel, Jarome Iginla, Marian Hossa, Zdeno Chara, Corey Perry, Joffrey Lupul added six for Team Chara while Team Alfredsson only managed three with Milan Michalek, Claude Giroux and Daniel Sedin scoring.
