Starscope in good form for the Swettenham Stud Fillies´ Trial Stakes
After an impressive finish as a runner-up in the Group 1 Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes (British Champions Series) at Newmarket, the John Gosden trained, Starscope, is looking to score in the Swettenham Stud Fillies´ Trial Stakes, which is scheduled to
take place at Newbury on 18th May, 2012.
The three-year-old filly, who is owned by the Cheveley Park Stud started her career with an impressive victory over, Coplow, in October, 2011.
Referring to her performance in the Guineas, Chris Richardson, managing director of owners Cheveley Park Stud, stated to the media that:
“Obviously the Guineas form was franked at York but the Guineas form is usually rock-solid anyway. It was a very pleasing run by our horse in the Guineas but our filly is a different type to The Fugue. We were very pleased with the Guineas, but we
want to see if she'll stay further and then we can establish a way forward for the rest of the season.”
Richardson stated that jockey Jimmy Fortune was sure that Starscope, can go longer than the Guineas distance. She might be inexperienced, but she has competed in bigger races to build up her strength.
The Fugue, who is also trained by John Gosden has been performing in an immaculate manner.
The daughter of Dansili, out of Twyla Tharp, notched a victory over, Twirl, by 4 ½ lengths in the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York on 16th May, 2012.
Firdaws, trained by Roger Varian, will also be competing in this event.
The daughter of Mr. Greeley, out of Eswarah, has competed in three starts, and managed to claim a placed finish in all three, with a victory, a finish as a runner-up and a finish in third place.
The Hamdan Al Actium owned three-year-old filly scored in the E B F "Norse Dancer" Quidhampton Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury in September, 2011, where she raced as a favourite with a winning shot of 2 to 5.
Under the command of rider, Richard Hills, she broke through the wire first, 2 lengths ahead of, Whimsical.
It will be a tough race, but the level of competition will cause an adrenaline rush among the connections of the runners participating.
