Start a new club?

I was thinking of starting a new club at my school come this fall. The club's idea/goal is to help out the community, but specialize on the people of my town. Let me explain it: I got this idea because my best friend's brother was diagnosed with bone cancer about four months ago and is going through really tough times because they need to pay for the chemotherapy and medications. This is when I got the idea that I should start a club that raises money for families with financial setbacks...any families in the community. Since my school's mascot is the Warrior, I thought I could name it "Warriors 4 Help", and start reaching out to families, couples, or individuals who NEED the money. The question is, what are ways I can raise the money? I know the community can be there, but any other places? I figure that the club can give certain amounts: $250, $500, $1,000? I can "advertise" on the newspaper, and ask people to write in or nominate people, good idea? What to you think?

I think what you want to do is great.

Maybe you could have dances at your school and the proceeds could be used for your charity.I would think the school would let you use the auditorium for such an event.

Maybe hold some talent contests,go to some local stores and see if they will let you put up flyers for your events for free advertising.
