Start to row?

Hey I want to start competitive rowing but don't know if I should, I'm not extremely tall maybe 5'10. I do competitive swimming and am really good at that so physical shape and endurance are not problem at all. I want to know does height matter? and also how much technique is involved?

  1. oh you're set for crew. all you need is a good coach. this is pretty much adding to Ally's answer because she's on the same team as me and she's my gf but that's beside the point. you're taller than me by 2 inches so you should be perfectly fine with height issues. Technique is the most important thing in crew. personally i have a lot of power because i've done so many sports including cross country and i suck at swimming so i know you have the great endurance required. When you nail down the technique you'll be amazing at crew because i know you already have power since you're so well conditioned but once you have the technique with it you'll be great

  2. your taller than I am, and I'm 5'3".

I've been rowing for almost a year. Endurance is extremely important with rowing. Technique is hugely important. but, after a while of practice working with a coach, and getting used to being on the water and in a boat, you'll get good.

Have fun trying rowing, I love it!
