Started a yahoo group and need to know how to go about getting people to join?

I would like people to join my group how do I go about this. what would you do to get attention?

I started a group on Yahoo with a very specific aim targeted at a specific audience.

I then put a link to join the group on the website that I ran at the time, which had over 2000 visitors a day. I promoted the group in our house magazine (4000 copies a quarter) and listed at the bottom of a lot of letters and posters. We now have over 600 subscribers, but to keep them, you need to have fresh content that will keep people interested.

Make it something that people will WANT to check out and join.  Spread the word to friends and within your local community.  You can do this by putting up fliers in your community and school, advertising on craigslist, putting an ad in the newspaper, advertising on a local radio show, and other numerous possibilities.

Put a puropse on the site stating why you formed the group and what benefits the members will have in joining.  This could be anything from promoting awareness of happenings in your community, school, in local organizations, building interest in your particular hobby, etc.  The more that you can incorporate "we" into the group, the better.

It is by word of mouth, that some groups grow & that is how mine has grown.  

What counts is what you put into UR group.  

Also, there are some similar groups to UR's out there that will gladly promote UR group & give you some of their group members, by running UR link through the group, with some kind of introduction letter.  

So, join similar groups like UR own & get idea's from other groups: on what makes that group an awesome group to be a part of.

Is it what they share in the group?  Is it their personality?  Is it all those things?  How's their organizational skills?  How smoothly do they make their group run?  Do they have a lot going on to keep their members on their toes?  Are the members there happy?

Mind you there are just some people you will not be able to please, no matter what you do.  Some people will find excuses to get mad at you, because they are jealous.

So, keep all the above things in mind: when running UR group.
