My daughter turned one last month. I started giving her whole milk. But now she is always constipated. It is okay if I dilute the milk with water? Is there anyway that she can drink it and not get constipated?

  1. Are you sure it is the milk that has been constipating her?  Is there anything else you've been giving her?

Maybe have her get her dairy from other sources--full fat yogurt, for example...

  2. Try giving her fruits. My daughter gets constipated too,but fruits should help it out a bit.Or add a little prune juice to the milk, that should work too.

  3. Gone through this with both of my girls and I am sure #3 is not going to be any different.

Prune juice and an increase in fiber in her daily routine of eating.  Prune juice should clear her out within a day or 2 and I have had to resort to feeding my one daughter bran muffin every day and it seems to be fine for her and she loves it as a healthy snack.  There is no issue with cramping or anything.

    Good luck

  4. Milk is more likely to cause diarrhea than constipation. Does she eat a lot of cheese? My mom told me when I could barely talk I always asked for cheese when she opened the fridge and I got constipated horribly. Talk to her doctor. There are advanced formulas for up to age 2 if she is having issues with the milk.

  5. Adding a little juice to it can help with constipation. It worked with our baby.

  6. The best thing to use is Karo syrup you put about a teaspoon in her bottle and that should help her go much easier. You can also try raising her juice intake and not diluting it as much. The main thing is to watch for mucus or blood in the stool that could be a sign of a allergy. KARO works you can find it in any supermarket.
