Starter Dan Haren becomes free agent – MLB Update
Saturday is the last day for Major League teams to negotiate with the free agents on their potential future.
Though any free-agent has not got any new contract with the existing teams and still looking for the qualifying offer, but news is coming that some players who still were not sure over their current status, opting free agency to free themselves to sign any new deal with a Major League team.
Dan Haren is one of them. He finally chooses to become free agent after his negotiations failed with the Los Angeles Angels’ management.
Haren with a nine-year experience is one of the most talented players and will be most demanded in the free agency market.
He pitched with 4.33 ERA during the 2012 Major League Baseball season. His consistent record also includes 12-13 win-loss along with 142 strike-outs and 1.29 WHIP.
Under the latest agreement, he will be getting $3.5 million buyout while $15.5 million club option for 2013 Major League Baseball season.
Recently has also wished to stay with the Angels which placed his free agency in limelight now.
"I think they should keep me just because the uncertainty of the free agent market and the fact that replacing me is gonna cost some money, I have a big upside and I feel like I'd be low-risk being on a one-year deal," Haren said for Angels.
He added, "I started working out about a week after the season ended, and I'm feeling good, I'm gonna go into this spring as strong as I've ever been and I'm confident I'll be back to my old self. I loved my time with the Angels, I would come back if we worked out something fair for both sides.”
Earlier another source speculated in the media that Haren was about to ship to Chicago Cubs for closing pitcher Carlos Marmol but at the very last minute both sides could not reach any mutual understanding.
Sources say that it was a highly suggested deal regarding both managements were concerned but it was not likeable as Marmol’s contract had some exclusive clauses as he will not be traded without his consent.
