Starter Solenoid is burning when I turn the ignition. It will start the engine, than after I let go of the ignition and it goes from "start" to "run" position, the coil fry's and gets stuck and it keeps giving the starter juice as if I were trying to turn on the engine, than I disconnect the wires and they are very, very hot. It is obvious that somewhere is pulling too much power. What could cause this? Im thinking maybe the starter is going out and it is pulling to much power and frying the solenoid instantly. Any other ideas?

  1. do a tune up on the car and also change key switch and starter solenoid

  2. If it's that bad I would think you should be able to see some heat buildup on the wires and posts at the solenoid.

    What kind of car.

  3. the starter solenoid is bad, if it will not disengage, the hot wire is mearly form the amount of current that is being drawn by the starter.

check the wire for corrosion at the terminals but other than that it sounds like the selenoid is hanging up.

most places will check them for free if you pull it and take it to them.
