Starting Dreads: For medium thickness (around the size of an index finger or so), about how many dreads?

I don't want anything to thick, and thin dreads are just not for me. I've researched a lot, I just can't seem to find a relative number or anything thing of the sort. Any help?

ok so here's the deal

it all varies depending on the texture of your hair. (fine or course) and how much hair you have (thick or thin)

if you have fine and thin hair as opposed to coarse and thick hair you will need to make your sections larger to make the same sized dread. do you understand?

so no one can really give you a number.

However, you would have to have INSANELY massive and almost unnatural amounts of hair on your head to make 100 dreads that are medium sized (size of an index finger). 100 will probably get you closer to pencil thins!

assuming you have moderate hair, not too thick not too thin, not too coarse not too fine the sections should be from 1-1.5 inches across inorder to get the look you are going for.. if you have fine hair make the sections a little larger, if you have thick hair, make 'em a little smaller. I i have medium type hair and i have 37 dreadlocks, most of mine are the size you specified, some of them are a little larger. (i didnt make uniformly sized sections) I'm guessing around maybe 40-50 dreads would give you the look you're looking for. But you need to be the judge and make adjustments according to your hair type.

In my opinion, dreads are nasty, and are just for people too lazy to take care of their hair.

Just my opinion, but I felt like exercising my first amendment right.
