Starting Final Fantasy?

I have never played final fantasy before but was looking for a good game and the reviews said the Final Fantasy Crisis Core was good. However I don't know anything about the storyline. Can I pick it up as I go along or is there someway I can find out what is going on without playing through all the other games?

  1. Each series is a different storyline.

The most commonly known story lines come from FF7, FF8, FF9. However, FF7 had the Advent Children movie and crisis core come out as additions to the story plot. If you're looking for a good game to play with a story plot I found FF7 to be my favorite (but other people are entitled to their own opinions, I found all the FF series for PS to be great). If you do indeed want to play Crisis Core, but are looking for a story plot as well, I'd actually recommend playing FF7 PSX (or PC) version, watching Advent children then playing Crisis Core. The reason being is that you'll get a huge chunk of the story plot from FF7, but it'll have you asking questions so that when you play Crisis Core you'll be more excited and appreciate the little nuiances and secrets revealed in the game =). As for advent children, its just cool to watch after u defeated the game...

Now to be brutally honest, I was actually severely disappointed in the Crisis Core game because I thought it would be more like the FF7 game. The two game systems are actually distinctively different where Crisis Core acts more like an Action game and FF7 like a traditional RPG traveling game. If you hate the fact that you pretty much play the same drivel and do the same moves/tactics the entire game then you will hate Crisis Core. However, after playing FF7 I think you'll find that playing Crisis Core will be a lot more enjoyable because you get to see how the plot unfolds from the mysterious character shrouded in FF7.

  2. well basicly the story line comes with diffrent thing like final fantasy 7 is about shinrai useing the energy sorce in the lifestream and number 10 is about sin and his father and at the end he kills his own dad its all diffrent you pick it up from playing diffrent types of final fantasy

  3. start with final fantasy 7 and work your way up and down

    most of us did that

  4. you can start anywhere you want to start. Final Fantasy 7 is a good place to start and you can skip different games if you want since the only ones you shouldn't skip is X since X will go into X2 since they have the only story line here.

  5. Each main entry in the Final Fantasy series (VII, VIII, X, XII, etc) is an entirely new game with new places and new characters. Crisis Core is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII, so it would be a fine place to enter the Final Fantasy VII series.

If you have a PlayStation 2, consider playing Final Fantasy X first. It is by far my favourite video game, and it features brilliant voice acting, characters, and full motion video scenes. The above answer referencing a concluding paternal confrontation is hugely misleading.

If in doubt, the main entry in each series is where most people start for each. Final Fantasies IV, VII, VIII, X, and XII are all acclaimed.
