My daughter wants to take gymnastics. Will she be way behind the other kids if she starts classes at age 9? I know some girls are in it from the age of 3.

  1. i started at 7 and im a level 8 and i love it, if you enjoy it youw ill get far, but it will cause some injuries when you get to harder moves but its great fun.

  2. no i started a class when i was 7 or 8 you dont fall behind because if you put her in level 1 they will all be at the same pace and there will be other 9 y/os there

  3. No, plenty of children start at 9 or later.

ex:  cathy Johnson 1980 (not sure of year) olympic gymnast started at age 12

  4. Yes she might be but if she just wants to do it for fun or to learn the moves I don't see any harm in it. She wont be able to compete right away. But I think anything physical for a child like gymnastics is a plus. It teaches coordination and I always wanted to be able to do the handstands etc. It is all a plus if she learns something new and enjoys it.

  5. My friend was 8 when she started!
