Starting Up My School's Speech Team?

Me and my friend are starting up the speech team for our school next year...The only problem is that we don't have a coach, nor do we have anyone that goes to our school that knows the Speech event rules......

I live in New York, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some sites that give a run down about the different speech events,

Make up your own rules.  You don't need the 250 convoluted rules from the Speech event.  Maybe you won't be allowed to participate in the State competition the first year but that's ok.  You've got the basic idea that you determine a topic and your decide how much homework is allowed in advance.  Then you get up and talk.  It always gets your heart racing.  Psychiatrists say that standing and talking in front of a large group of people is one of the most universal "fears" of human beings.

Get a group and get started.  Are you talking about debate, too.   Or just speech.
