Since ive have started secondary school i don't think i could ever recall a time i did will in my core subjects which are English, Science and Maths. I really want to do well in my GCSE's, My form tutor already told me that i am a student that boards on a C/D grade but i want to achieve more than just a C or D. I am not the type that can sits down for hours on end revising because i get distracted easily.

How can i make sure that i can do well in my exams?

Were any of you like this in school?

and could you reccomend any revising techniques?

  1. God i hate it when teachers say your a C/D grade! My teacher told me the same thing and it was like i stopped trying to get an A becase i was "told" i was a C/D-even though i felt like an A. When my tutor said this...i jst felt so worthless and all my drive went down the toilet, then i finally got mad and thought "I AM AN A GODAMNIT!!". Just thinking that my teacher saw me as just a C/D made me want to prove everone wrong-just the thought of her swallowing her words when i got that A made all the studying and sleepless nights worth it you know?. Dont let anyone tell you what you are, if you want something, nothing should stand in the way...NOTHING!

Nothing in this life thats worth having comes easily.

Study hard...i promise you it'll be worth it!.

  2. stick with having a tutor.  they really are helpful in keeping you on track.  some schools offer programs where older/more intelligent students tutor younger ones who need help.  that can be nice - more relaxed, opportunity to make friends, and they really understand what it's like to be a student.

also ask about your school's "extra help" program.  there might be good options.

during exam time, make a schedule for yourself.  e.g. study for an hour then watch a half hour tv program.  study for another hour then get a good healthy snack.  make sure you have a good place to study with no distractions.

for revising, i always like to read my work out loud.  it helps me fix things that sound dumb or are too confusing.  sometimes just reading over a paper you miss things because your eyes just skim over.  make sure you have someone else proofread/revise your work as well.  some teachers will even pre-check your work before you hand it in if you ask them.

and stay positive!  set goals for yourself that you know you can achieve and some that will stretch you.  some people just aren't cut out to be A students.  i'm sure you have other talents!

good luck and don't forget to have fun : )

  3. You don't need to sit down for hours and continually revise to attain a high grade. Break it down and revise thorougjhly but in short periods. Treat yourself at the end if you think you have had a rewarding session of revision. Focus on the subjects that you struggle on and the particular topics that you struggle on.

Another tip is to compose a revision timetable, making sure that you allow time for yourself and social time to relieve th stress.

Another tip is to mix up your revision, don't just read books or don't just sit at a computer. Ask your teacher for past papers or find them on the Internet (the AQA) website is particularly good). Even try to make revision fun. I went out in my back garden and worked out the area and circumference of a hop and the volume of my best football.

If maths is a particular woory, then my two main pices of advice are to get yourself a Maths Watch CD as they are brilliant. They give you Maths lessons and plenty of practice exercise. The other tip is to use My Maths on the internet, www.mymaths.co.uk. However, to access the full range of topics, your school needs to be signed up.

These are just some of the things that I did and it helped me to a maximum 14 out of 14 GCSEs.

Year 11 is only  as stressful as you make it. Good luck!

  4. Well not really i got A/B grades.

I revised all my text books and dictated them into a voice recorder and listened to them before I went to sleep. This might take some time but it's well worth it.

  5. well to do well .. u will need 2 revise .. try bbc bitesize to revise topics .. there are may games as well that will help you to revise .. search on google for revision games ..

    good luck x

  6. you should revise for like 15minutes and then stop for 2minutes going over what you revised...like in a fun way or something? i don't know ask your mates to test you or something...if they don't have anything else to do...you know? :)

  7. Study little and often. Review the work you've done each week. Mindmap the work to help revision. Don't just do huge bits of revision at the end.
