I really want to start a journal, but every time i try, i always end up writing a couple of times and never writing in it again. I got a new one and i really want to do it. How can i start off, should i write about myself? I just don't know how to get started? I love to write so i think if i can get this started, it would be great for me!

  1. I have the same problem. Just start it off describing yourself and make it interesting by drawing in it and pasting pictures and memories. Like if you go to a movie or something, put your movie ticket in it. That'll keep you writing in it for a while.

  2. Include the journal as a sleeping ritual. You may write before you sleep or after you sleep. Write what you may dream or what you have dreamt.

Write your reflections in the evening and expectations in the morning. Remind yourself that this Journal is my personal private place where my mind can be free.

  3. Your main focus should be consistency.  Try to write even a paragraph or less, but do it often.  That way, if you don't feel like writing much on a given day, you still will have enough energy to write something.  And that's what will get you into the habit!

  4. i will give you a more fun way to keep a journal. If you have enough Hard Drive space on ur PC, try keeping a video journal. If you don't have too much space, then try audio journal.

I tried keeping a journal too, but i quit every time.

    Good luck,

    Eddie

  5. I've kept a journal since 1992 myself, and mine started out with prayer requests.  If you're not a Christian or any religious person, that need not apply (or even if you are), but don't look at it as something you HAVE to do.  Find some time (early morning before anyone else in my house is up works best for me) when you can be alone to write, doodle, paste something you find interesting, or what have you.

You don't have to write in it every day, but by planning out some time for it you will put yourself to write something -- or draw or anything you use to record what you have to say, do, or think.  And that's the essence of a journal, an unedited snapshot of you which can be as fantastic or real-life as you want.  Good luck with it, and if you'd like any other tips, feel free to ask!

  6. That is the beauty of a journal.  There are no rules.  Write about whatever you want and as often as you want.

  7. well see i never start writting about myself it just feels weird and awkward.

i have the same problem as you... so here is what I'm trying to do...

I have a small 5 star notebook that i carry EVERYEHERE

with me so when i'm bored i take it out, or on car rides...

it's been working very well for me so good luck!

  8. you should write about yourself...journals are about your life and what happens in it. write about your daily experiences, feelings, whatever. Write about the people in  your life, your likes, dislikes, ect...one day when you're older and looking through old boxes you'll find your journal and read thru it and it will bring back memories..

  9. YOU SOUND LIKE ME=)

Just take your journal everywhere you go- hopefully it fits in your purse- and whenever you think of something nice- or see something just jot it down. it does not have to be long- it could just be a few sentences. but i fond that when i take my journal with me everywhere it fills up fast- now i have to try to go through all the babble.

  10. When writing a journal write what's on your mind, don't write every thing you did that day in detail.  Doodle in it, write insulting things about people you don't like, write down a funny joke to remember or something you heard that you don't want to forget. Write down questions to answer later.  It's meant to have fun.

  11. I have the same problem. What I end up doing is just not pressuring myself to write. When I feel like it, I go and get my journal and write, but when I'm not in the mood, I don't push myself because that just turns me off to it. Generally, I just write when I'm upset or excited or worried, to help calm me down. Good luck!

  12. I keep a journal also. I do not write in it everyday, just when something is on my mind or I feel like I should write something down. I also have many failed journals, which are ones that I wrote in every single day and most of it was just boring stuff. Like, "Today I went to school. We did work. I went home, did my homework, watched TV, took a shower, and then I went to bed." LOL

That makes you not want to write in it because you start to get bored. If you only write in it when important stuff happens or something is on your mind, it is a really great thing.

    **have a sparkling day**

  13. i find its easier to keep a journal on my laptop, as i can edit etc......

i start an entry by writing my mood, and a little list of thoughts that i want to put in writing.

then i write about them, and anything else i feel like while writing....don't feel like you have to catch the journal up on your whole life so far. start your first entry off by writing why you wanted to start a journal, and go from there. also you don't have to write to a journal every day, i usually do it once a week, and just write about thoughts/oppinions and big events, rather than what i did each day.
