Question:

Starting a new professional job?

I am starting a new professional job for the first time in my life. I have worked before but in jobs where there were plenty and no degree required. I have done all of the schooling and more to do the job, though, I still feel like I am going to mess up or not do the job right. I really need this job, I have a child to support and there are few of these jobs in the area. So, it kind of has to work out. I am so nervous, are these feelings normal? Help, PLEASE!

  1. It's very normal to be nervous.  Just relax, do your best, ask questions if your not sure.  Its better to ask a silly question that make a major mistake.  I strongly suggest showing up AT LEAST 15 minutes early EVERYDAY and don't be the first to leave.

  2. Congratulations on your new job!

Try to relax. They hired you, you are qualified, everything sounds great.

It's hard to seem cool when everything is riding on your performance. It's okay to be nervous, and it's even okay to mess up ( a little).

People understand that you are new, nervous, and need to ask questions and get used to your new job. It's okay to ask for clarification on exactly what is expected at your new job. Find out about the management structure, so you know who is in charge of whom. It takes confidence to ask questions when you feel like you want to make a good impression and know everything. You could start with "This may be obvious, but I'm new here, where is the ...?"

But I think that the main thing is to be yourself (your professional self) and try not to worry too much.

In a few weeks it will all feel normal.

    Good luck!
