Starting a new website, does anyone know of some free/cheap good web hosts?

So I have been thinking about starting my own website, but I have absolutely NO experience..... I have been looking around for some web hosts that has a website builder and where I can put up a forum, that sort of thing.... the problem is, since I am new at this, I don't want to go and just empty out my pockets just yet.... If there is anything FREE out there that provides this kinda service (I don't mind having to purchase a domain name), that would be absolutely great (AND DEFINETLY THE BEST ANSWER!), if not, then, a cheap one that would be the second best choice.... anyone knows of any? thanks!

I'd suggest http://www.000WEBH0ST.com as a free host.  They have Cpanel in their free account, as well as MYSQL, and PHP.  If you are just learning, this will come in very handy.

For beginners, why not stick with Godaddy?  They have a TON of online tutorials that make it easy for a new webmaster.  Check the articles at http://directorix.net/articles.html where you're given the basics for great looking web publishing.  You don't have to know a whole lot of programming, either.  If you are worried about the cost of hosting, you can always sign up for google adsense and offset the cost of hosting monthly.

I like and use Yahoo Small Business.  You can get your domain, web hosting, and they have a super easy website builder.  It costs me about $12 a month.

I have about 3 websites up on google, you have to have a free google email address with them, but they is all entirely free, I really like them you can also store stuff there for people to download. Its great. It is all free there are no fee's and no hosting fee's all done for you. Try it out, if not interested in that maybe you can get back to me I can help you with a solution to your problem. So go look at google pages first if you like. Another I use is bigpixie.com that is not free but has a small monthly fee. Hope thats helpful

When choosing a web host it's of course important to consider the cost (some hosting can be very expensive) but here are some other important things you should take into consideration too:

Web Hosting Space:  Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.

Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges.

Uptime: There's no point in having a website if people can't see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?

Number of websites allowed: If you're looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this?
