Hey All,

Someone I know wants to start an In-home Daycare and needs some help getting off the ground. She wants to be as legal as possible, so whats the route to take for that? Licencing, how many kids, ect... I also heard something about it has to be on the ground floor, is that true? Any kind of help is appreciated!

  1. I think the kids need to remain mostly on the ground floor, because stairs pose a risk of injury to lil ones.  Umm, not sure how it works in Canada but in the US licensing is by both County & State..tell her to check with her local government office and ask about child care licensing procedures.  She will prob have to take some classes.  The number of children is set by the licensing authority..I think its probably around 5 kids per 1 adult.  Tell her to set up a playroom with books & toys for kids all ages..this will make her home a more attractive place for potential clients.  Also....tell your friend to be prepared for kids always in her house, it gets nerve racking!!!
