Anything that I should keep in mind? I'm kind of nervous and I don't really know what I'm doing.

I'm staying at an apartment, I don't have classes on friday, and I'm planning on going back to San Francisco on the occasional weekend. Anything advice from returning students or graduates?

  1. I graduated from State back in the 90's but I was nervous when I started there too.  My parents lived in Hayward, so I also went home on the weekends.  The best thing to do is try to stay structured from the start.  College allows for you to set your own rules.  That's great and all, but it also means that you don't have anyone telling you to keep up on all the homework and studying for exams.  Make sure you reserve time in your daily schedule to study, but also give yourself time to get to know your classmates and neighbors in your apt building (who mostly will likely be students too).

Most of all, enjoy your college life!  It's a blast, nothing like HS.  Good luck!!

  2. Congrats on starting SJSU. I graduated from there about five years ago (geez, I feel old now). Try to get involved in some sort of program or club related to your major (if you have one picked out). That way you will get to know people who are in your classes and begin to hang out with them possibly outside of class.

I enjoyed downtown San Jose. It has the restaurants/bars/clubs like a bigger city but without the seediness. It's a small downtown, but very close to campus.
