I am starting high school this fall and I want to play volleyballfor the school. I have played volleyball before a lot but I would still consider myself a beginner. What should I look out for and what should I work on? Also, is there any special equipment I should look out for?

Thanks!

  1. ARE YOU SERIOUS, IT'S VOLLEYBALL......EVERYONE MAKES THE TEAM.....GOSH!

  2. If u don't know, u definately need knee pads. U need to go after every ball no matter who's job it was. This will show the coaches you don't give up. Also call the ball when ur gonna get it and don't worry about the upperclassmen who will hate u for no reason. Just be yourself and be nice to everyone, it pays off.

  3. well for equipment i would look for knee pads and an ankle brace. i know this cuz i play volleyball

  4. Just make sure you show the coaches that you have potential they will take you on the team if they think they can make a good player out of you.  So make sure you are coacheable and a good listener that is really what the freshman coaches are looking for.  However if you dont make the team dont be discouraged.  i didnt make the team my freshman year but i joined a local club team and made the team my sophomore year as a starter.  So just go to tryouts and have a good time and if you dont make the team get better over the summer and tryout again next year! Good Luck and Have fun!

  5. well me im a hitter, i wear ankle braces, and knee pads. give it your all and who ever that first person is, not everyone makes the team! so just give it your all keep your spirits up, work on your passing and serving and if your a hitter work on your hitting. basically pepper (bump set hit) try to get into a couple of camps before school starts, it always help. and if you have open gym show your commitment, best of luck

  6. hey! your in the same situation im in!! i think that you should try out just to see what the process is like or to see what competition there will be for the next year.

as equipment goes.. definatley knee pads and if you have weak ankles get ankle brace..

GOOD LUCK at try outs (if you decide to GO FOR IT!!)

  7. My BFF plays girls volleyball and she was a beginner last year when we went iinto highschool. She waited a year and she is on the team this year as a starter.

  8. I'm going to say the same thing to you that I said to some other people. Work hard, Call the ball and Pay attention. Those are three things the coach can't teach you, so they expect it from you. During the summer, if you have a ball and a friend, play pepper (hit it back and forth to each other.....pass, set, spike, pass, set, spike, each person alternates these actions). Work on control and conditioning.

As far as special equipment, you'll need some good shoes and knee pads will help (although technically, if you're diving properly you don't need them). Your school may have some hitting and setting equipment but those are training tools and easy to operate.

Try going to camps if you can and make sure you know the rules and court positions. Not knowing where you should be is the biggest error I've encountered as a high school coach. If you can learn that quickly, you'll have a leg up.

    Good Luck!

  9. dont play..? volleyball is a lame sport

  10. work on how hard you hit the ball and how straight make sure the ball goes where ur aimming it for

  11. It depends where you go to school.  At my school, there were cuts even for the freshman team.  I would suggest looking at your high school website.  There should probably be an open gym, which will be intense workout to get you fit for season.  When I went, there was also a camp to go to.  You should definitely know how to overhand serve, spike, set, and bump.  Good exercises would include agility ladders, lunges, squats, weights practicing the serve movement, and practice practice practice with a volleyball and a partner!  Another good exercise involves two people.  One stands higher than the other and holds a small towel.  The other should hit it like she was going to spike the towel.  Your wrist movement should just come down with ease.  It's hard to explain it, but if you do some research or go to a camp, they should teach you all you need to know!  Good luck!

  12. 1) The first answer is wrong. I have seen people get cut. So dont let that person fool you.

    2) Just keep at it. Never give up. Make sure you can serve. Serving is the way you can keep or give up points. It is key.

    3) Be able to communicate.

    4) Make sure you have the knee pads. And dont be afraid to dive for the balls you need to dive for.

    5) Volleyball is a great sport, just  have fun and dont stress too much over it. If you keep with it, then you will make the team :)
