i'm going into high school this year and i'm really nervous about it. should i already be thinking about the kind of jobs i want? i haven't even put much thought into it yet. i had so many bad experiences in grade 7/8 so will it be a lot worse? how was your life in high school? there are so many teens that make bad decisions in high school and it just kind of scares me to be around it.

i'm just really nervous because school starts pretty soon. i stayed in and skipped a lot of breaks to study last year and everyone said i was to obsessed with school. is that a good thing?

  1. well, i'm english. so i'm in year 11 next year which is my last year of school. untill my a levels. but don't worry, serisoulsy, your doing the right thing by studying, but make room for fun. you should start thinking about what you like doing, meet some new people and i'm sure you'll find something :)

  2. I loveddddddddddddddddd highschool!! Its been 4 years since I left.. and I miss it so much! I still keep in contact with a lot of my highschool friends.. actually.. all my close friends now are pretty much from highschool! You are your own individual .. so you can make up your own mind. Sure, there will be kids doing some crazy things in highschool.. the one advice tip I can give you is.. Listen to your intuition!! If something in your gut tells you not to do something, or stay away-- then listen to it! You learn a lot in highschool.. not only just from books .. but the whole experience will make you grow. Good luck! Take lots of pictures.. be involved --- you're going to love it!!

  3. Dude, chill.

First of all, be careful. If you keep working so hard, you'll burn out before college. You should have an idea about which fields you're interested in. For example, dentistry, or design.

Another good strategy is to get a college admissions counselor/strategist. They can help you set up and plan your approach to college. However, for the strategists to create a plan for you, you must have an idea of what job(s) you like. That way, the strategist can create a plan, guiding you through high school.

The plans usually tell you which classes to take, and other things (such as competitions) to partake in.

  4. I just finsished my freshman year and it wasn't hard at all.

    You just have to relax.

    Respect your upperclassmen...

You have to remember... You are now at the bottom of the food chain...

As for work... my school was pretty easy and I made all A's the whole year.

They don't just throw you into a whole new curriculum.... they ease you into it. Your teachers aren't evil... though at times you think they are.

    Just be focused and prepared.

    Respect your upperclassman.

    Work hard.

    Thats all.

    Easy-peasy...

  5. High School for me has been 100 times better than middle school, i had a pretty bad 7/8th grade too, 9th was tough cause I didn't know anyone, but sophmore was excellent so was junior, and now I'm a rising senior. Job intrest isn't important for you, you cn focus on that once you get into college, just make sure you get good grades in high school so you can go to a good college so you can get a good job. Thats as far as your job intrest should go. Its all about managing your time, yes you'll want to study, be the social aspect is important as well, its the first step for preperation for the real world.

  6. Dont stress! im out of high school, and wish i could go back, no matter what, they are the bet years of your life! Study hard, get good grades, go out with friends, prom, sadies, football games all that! you wont regret it! And yes people do make bad decisions, on there own!

  7. To your first question, about weather you need to know what kinda job you want, No, you don't need to know. Grade 9/10  will be pretty much standardized, and you won't get much choice on what you get to do, it isn't until 11/12 that your choices will matter. And even then, as long as you cover your bases you should be fine. If you really need to get a specific course in before colledge, and you did neglect to take it, it's not that big of a deal. Most people do not realize this comming into highschool, but alot  of people are tacking on an extra semester to there high school life, to get in some specialized credits for colledge/university. Its not unusual at all and people won't look down on your for it.

In terms of your second question, I beleive when your saying you had some bad expiriences, you mean social expiriences? If so, then don't sweat it. Middle school is tough, mainly because of such a small group, most schools will only have like 30-50 students in an age group. When you get to highschool, it will be more like 150-300 depending on the size of your school, which means it will be alot easyer to find people who share your interests, and get along with. Also, because there are usually a few versions of the same class running in a day, if you do have a problem with certain people/groups in any of your classes, you can always get your schedual rearranged so that you don't have to deal with them anymore.

All in all, highschool is alot more flexible, and for most people an extremely enjoyable expirience. If middle school was a pain, don't worry, it is for most. But you shouldn't fear highschool, because its a completely different environment.

  8. you sound like a smart student dont worry about what anyone has to say this is high school these next four years will determine where you will go to college and if you will even be accepted. have friends in every class and try to pass all of your classes so by the time your a senior you can be done with all of your credits and maybe start taking college courses to get a jump start. if you have a good GPA then think about getting a job after school but other than that just focus on your studies. before you know it these 4 years will be done and over with and then life will really begin!

  9. You don't need to know what kind of job you want your freshman year. You might want to think about what your goals are though. Do you want to go to a community college, a four year, medical school, graduate school, etc.  High school is fun, you need to stay on top of your work, and don't let one or two classes get harder than the rest. And there aren't really a lot of "decisions" to make except your friends classes and if you want to do sports or clubs.

Is ok to be obsessed with getting your school work done, but you need to have time to rest and not think about work and school.

    good luck have fun!

  10. dont think of jobs right away.

i know what you mean when people change and make bad decisions.

i had friends who in gr. 8 were all cool and stuff.

they went to gr. 9. BOOM. started smoking cigarettes/weed/drinking/sheesha/ who knows what else.

please dont do that. i lost about 20 friends to all that ****.

i still talk to them. but barely.

and i dont hang out with them that much . cause they always deny that they do it. and they just get mad.

and high school isnt bad if you join clubs. meet new people. join teams. just go say hi to people you wanna meet in the hallway randomly. and you'll make friends that way. lol.

    hope i helped .

  11. I started high school last year, and like you, I was extremely nervous, but, I learned I really didn't have much to be nervous about.

High school is a good place to find out what kind of job you would want, because you have so many class options.  I would recommend taking a variety of classes your first couple of years, so you can find out what really interests you.

As far as the social stuff goes, just stick with your friends, but be open to making new friends, and you really don't have to be involved in anything you don't want to be in.  Like drinking for example, just stay away from the people who do it.

And, being obsessed with school is a good thing, to a point.  Just make sure that you are living your life and trying new and fun things, along with maintaining a good GPA

  12. Just relax.  I think the most important thing is to have fun.  Be out going.  Participate in some clubs may be.  Sports.

Studying is great, but also have fun my man.  In the "real" work world employers looks more at your personal skills.  So at school just mingle, with kids and teachers.

As for not knowing what you want to do in the future.  Can't help you there.  I'm 30 and still don't know what I want to do!

  13. I have been out of high school for 10 years, and if I could go back there are a lot of things I would do so much different, so I will give you the things I would of done as advice.

    1. Do Not give much mind to what people say about you, they will not matter in the very near future, they do not follow you to college or pay your  bills, so they don't really matter.

    2. Study a lot get good grades, join clubs, you can get scholarships for grades and clubs you are involved in

    3.  Have friends but don't obsess over who they are and how many, and few or even 1 is fine, you do not need to be the most popular like I said in number 1, they do not follow you after and take care of you

    4. Most of all be you, and be proud of you

And remember high school is only 4 years not a lifetime even though it may feel like it, it is not. Good Luck have fun and make the most of it.

  14. High School is fairly straight forward. JObs are good when you get out work experience is really valued. If you are thinking about college get good grades and find tie for at least one extra curricular, most scholarships want good grades, and extra curriculars. But keep in mind out of college employers want work experince more. (Balance it all). Take time to meet a few people you really like hanging out with and then just wind the wave. Do what you can and don't sweat the rest. You sound like a good kid with a good head on your shoulders. Oh and it doesn't hurt to get to know a few teachers esspecially not for letters of recomendation. For the most art high school is fun and easy.

  15. just chill, be yourself. You will find friends who are like you only if you are yourself...

  16. Depending on how old you are, don't be afraid to go around town and pick up some job apps.If you would like, offer your parents to do some stuff around the house. I know it sounds "wonderful", but there's no difference, really. But if you're just starting high school, don't worry about it until next year.

Everybody has crazy experiences in Juinor High [7th, 8th]. And they're pretty much forgotten. One day you'll look back and laugh, trust me. I farted in science class in 8th grade and I was so nervous that everyone would still remember. I'm graduating this year, and I think it's one of the best memories ever because it was so hilarous.

Not all teens make bad decisions. Some of them know what they're doing. You'll meet TONS of different people--it's a whole new world out there. You'll make plenty of friends, and you'll lose some. But that's the game of social life.

Don't let anyone pressure you into s*x, drugs, or something you don't want to do. These are your decisions, and you need to think about them very clearly and be logic. Always list pros and cons. Don't do something that you think that will make you cool because it really won't. If you never smoked weed or got drunk before, and your best friend does it, don't do it. If you turn out to be the only virgin in your group and everyone ends up laughing at you, don't go off and use a girl. You be who YOU want to be. Don't let other people make you. It's tough at first, than once you've been in High School for a couple of years, you'll be satisfied with yourself.

It IS good to be obsessed with school. Those people are obviously not mature enough for High School life yet. But you are! Keep focusing on school...it gets VERY tiring, but DO NOT give up!! By the time you reach your senior year, a great future will be ahead of you. Be proud of yourself.

I think you're totally ready. But prepare yourself.

    Good luck!!

  17. highschool is not that scary.

you should start thinking about what kind of job you want so you can get in the better requirments but if you get teased about grades.jsut think you have a better chance of being more succesful throught life.and proble a lot more richer.just focus on grades because they are really important.

  18. Assuming that your high school is a combination of a bunch of middle schools in your area, there will be a lot of groups forming after a few weeks of school. you'll find people you fit in with and that share similar interests. It is a good thing, but you need to make sure it isn't dominating your life. you need to spend time with friends. as for the bad choices, if they are your friends, they will listen if you firmly say "no, i don't want to." if they don't then you should ditch them anyway.
