Question:

Starting in a nutrition field?

I'm interested in a career in nutrition; I've looked into becoming accredited with the ADA. It seems like this is the only option if one wants a career in nutrition. Is it worthwhile to take classes at a local community college for a nutrition certificate (not necessarily backed by the ADA)? Would I be able to get any work this way? Just trying to figure out all my options. Thanks!

  1. I suggest looking up colleges with programs in nutrition. It's easier because it guides you through what classes you need to take and how you can become licensed. There may even be nutrition courses at community colleges but you'll have to research it. The ADA is an easier route to take since it's more definite than random courses that may not be accepted at all colleges. As long as you get your license you should be able to find jobs.

  2. Nooooo... Get your Masters in this field. A community college degree in nutrition will most likely just land you a minimum wage job in a hospital  perscribing  nutritious food for patients.

  3. The nutritionist we have on staff makes fifty dollars an hour. She has an MS,RD,LDN,& CR. Go to a four year college for the degree. I'm starting at the local community college before attending a university.
