  1. Wrestling is one of the best foundations for becoming a mixed martial artist, in my opinion.  I would also study ju jitsu and muay thai on my spare time.  Remember, effective grappling and striking is what mma is all about.

Grappling's focus should be:  Can I control my opponent on the ground.

Striking's focus should be:  Quickness, Accuracy, and Power.

  2. It would be best to start out wrestling.  Learn all you can then decide if you want to move on. IMO it is best if you learn an art ( be it boxing, jiu jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, etc) as a whole because you understand it better and you don't get just things that have been pieced together for MMA. You hear a lot of MMA guys say, " I'm great at this" and IMO I think that this is because when you get into MMA training you excel at one thing but not at others. This leads you to lean more toward the aspect you are good at. If you start out doing wrestling or BJJ then you have to be good at that art to make it, you can't slip by because you got a knock-out. IMO i think that this makes you a better rounded fighter.

  3. Absolutely start wrestling.  Don't even worry about MMA right now, just focus on being the best and most competitive wrestler you can.  MMA will be an easy transition in a couple of years and just wrestling will allow you to kick butt in the mean time.

  4. Yea if i were you i would join wrestling since alot of mma fighters have a wrestling backround. Thats a good wayand better way to start out.
