I am a pro photographer in the business for a very long time. I am starting to teach photography lessons now.
I have quoted a potential student a certain price I expect to charge. They are fine with it. Today, they emailed me asking me what kind of deal I can give for two student?
I am thinking if I should give them a group rate (even though the classes are outdoors and are one-on-one basis) or if I should give the student a few dollars off for referring their friend.
FYI - I am charging $160 from my student. If they bring a friend, I can either charge them $280 and give each one, a $20 discount or I can give $40 to the first one for referring me to another student.
I like the referral idea but it can be misused and I don't really want to start mailing out referral cheques to people. That would be another pain.
I was thinking what reward/benefit I could give my student that can either be coupled with a group rate (which I really think is the way to go).
If you can think of anything else aside from the group rates or the referral idea, please let me know.
Ideally I would have liked to make $160 each for both students since the sessions are one-on-one basis and not in a group. A discount of 40 dollars will however cut into my profits even though my fixed and variable costs stay the same (preparation, travel, printing, teaching)
But then if I don't give them a discount, I would have to provide something else that is of value to a photography student. I should ask a few local photography business if they can give me some discount coupons to distribute..lol...ideas...ideas...ideas....
As you can see, I don't have a clue how to run the business or to formulate this plan. I am looking for something here that I can stick with for a long time and not just some temporary fix. But please, all ideas are welcome.
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers..!
