Is it too late to start piano now? I'm only 12 years old, and most of the people i know who plays piano started at 6, and they're like in leve 8-12, i think. But if i start i want to be really good like them, i want to catch up to them.

  1. its not too late.

    you can do  it!

  2. No, it's definitely not too late for you to start playing.  You might not be as advanced as your friends at first, but you are still very young and very capable of learning.  You might not catch up to your friends instantly, because like with any instrument, learning takes time.  You can't expect to be that advanced overnight.  But if you work diligently and put your heart in it, it won't matter how advanced you are.  Plus, you'll catch up faster if your heart is in it.  My nextdoor neighbor just started learning the piano, and she is 58 and doing fine!  But don't be discouraged if you don't advance like speedy gonzales!  And remember, Perfect Practice Makes Perfect Playing!  Good luck!

  3. I started when I was twelve and had no trouble.  In fact, maybe because I was a little older, it took me only a year or so to catch up to where other kids my age were who had taken lessons a lot longer.  If you practice regularly, by the time you hit high school you'll be able to play popular songs, accompany singers and musicians and do your own recital.

    Go for it!

  4. you can still definatley play, but youll probably wont understand music as well as you could of if you start at 6/7

when you learn young, when youre still learning new things it becomes second nature to you, but once your around 12+ it becomes harder to learn and takes longer to learn (eg music without notes, playing by ear) but if you practice and work hard, you could still play, at any age

  5. no, its definitely not too late.

i've played for a while-and its a simple enough concept to grasp. the technical stuff is pretty easy-you just have to work on your skills.

go to musicnotes.com for music from beginner-expert.

some of it is free-some cheap.

    goodluck :]

  6. definitely not too late at all. My mate is starting soon and he's 15 and that's not too late either. I started Saxophone at 12.

  7. You are a great age to start. I actually have a new student who started several months ago. She is 75. She is doing an amazing job. Don't worry about trying to catch up. Just put in the required practice time to polish each new skill.

  8. i started at 12 too....i dont think its too late...
