Starting pitcher Micah Owings might affect San Diego Padres rotation – MLB News
Experts believe that the San Diego Padres' newly acquired player Micah Owings might have an affect on their starting rotation next season.
Padres’ manager Bud Black stated Thursday on Owings' talents and how he will be effecting their rotation in 2012. Black was precise and also stated some positive things for Owings. He said, “His versatility raises a lot of possibilities and gives us more choice, and potentially attractive options.” He was talking about options that the team might ask him to play some different role except a hasty start into the new season.
Owings is an experienced player for almost three different teams in the past. Last year he played with the Arizona Diamondbacks and achieved 3.57 ERA along with 8-0 win loss record, 44 strike-outs and 1.25 WHIP.
Looking at his career 4.91 ERA, along with 32-31 win loss record, 340 strike-outs and 1.40 WHIP is also considerably decent stats.
Though these records are enough to judge his tremendous game, late remarks by the Padres' management that he will not be able to influence the game in the presence of more experienced players is evident.
Initially the Padres were looking for a pitcher with a Minor League contract but when Owings and his agent refused this late condition to play in the farm system, the Padres eventually gave him a chance to represent them in Major League Baseball.
As now, things again got complicated when the Padres' internal management stated earlier that they are still looking for ways to finalise their 2012 roster for Opening Day.
In the Padres franchise, still many players are more experienced than Owings and that is only making things complicated within the whole environment of the franchise.
On the other hand, experts believe, Owings is the that kind of player who can perform at the highest level, he is just as talented as any other Padres' player.
His past record clearly reflects that he will play a positive role in the Padres franchise and given chance, he will be looking to put in a tremendous performance for the team during the 2012 regular season.
