My four year old daughter just started preschool, and is having a terrible time adjusting. She has been in the same daycare since she was eight weeks old, so I realize the change is huge for her. We are just looking for some ideas to help ease her in. Thanks!

  1. to help feel more safe and secure a the new school, talk to her teacher about letting you stay with her for a couple of hours. then i think she would slowly get used to it. because being put in a starnge place with no familiar faces is daunting for a young child.

  2. I am guessing that you are using the preschool as your babysitter since you have had her out of the home since she was an infant.  Be understanding and sympathetic and let her know that she has to keep going even if she hates it.

  3. Maybe you could set up a playdate with some of the other kids in her class. Or maybe you could ask the teacher if you could stay with her for some certain days?

  4. There isn't much you can do, preschool is necessary and the nervousness she and you feels now is normal, but preschool really helps when your child goes to kindergarten. How many days do you have her in preschool and for how long each day, maybe you need to start with a shorter period of time and ease her into it, there is a lot of structure that is required in preschool and a lot more listening.
