I am currently working on my B.S in molecular and cell biology. My main target is get into a med school, since I am in pre-med. But what can I do if I somehow can not get into med school or dental school? Should I get a Ph.D or switch my major?

  1. I agree with the first post that you can't go into med school, dental school, or graduate school for the money alone.  The work is too intense; you have to love it or you'll never be able to stand it.   Many people do go on to grad school in the biomedical sciences and do well after not getting into medical school, but in general I do not want someone in our graduate program or in my lab who is there as a second choice and who didn't have the grades for medical school.

Starting salary is in the 20s for a grad student, the 30s for a postdoc, and probably the 60s for an assistant professor.  If you just get a B.S. and work as a lab tech in academia, your starting salary will depend a lot on your location, but won't ever grow to be very high.  You can make a lot more in industry, but you limit yourself by not getting a graduate degree.

If your main target is med school, I'd focus on working hard and getting into med school, not on worrying about the what-ifs. :)

  2. Salaries vary depending on many factors. You will find that jobs like these are negotiable when it comes to salary.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/

  3. if you like this path then you should never switch for the money's sake. if youre talented and are enjoying the work then you might get to the top of the career. if you think about it you can go into business, but unless you're talented at it too (and enjoying it) then you'll be more likely to stay at the bottom which means lower pay than you would as a molecular biologist

anyway starting pay in singapore is about 2500 SGD for a bachelor

  4. You have to ask yourself why you are going (attempting) to go into medicine.... money?  or actual patient care?

Somehow.... is more likely than not (statistically).

Physician assistant is a great alternative for the pre-med that didn't.  As is nursing.

Being pre-med you know that less than 50% of all applicants get it... QUALIFIED applicants, with their bachelors/masters/phDs, and high GPAs.
