  1. Andy,

I am about to school you on your lack of intelligence.  You asked what LIVEROCK is low maintenance.   LIVE ROCK, is rock that has been harvested from the ocean that still has bacteria, living organisms as well as micro and macrofauna still on it.  There is NO difference in liverock when it comes to maintenance.  Live rock doesnt grow and become bigger.  You dont have to feed it or take it for a walk. It is simply rock that has life on it.  Take the same rock, place it in the sun or somewhere and let it dry out completely, it becomes dead or base rock.  Add it back into the water again over a period of time, macro algae, pods, and tiny organisms make home all over and inside the porous rock and it becomes live again.  Your intention to prove kfin wrong made you look very stupid as you added CORAL in the mix later in your added comments.  CORAL is a whole other ball game and it NOT live rock.  Coral is a living animal.  Here is your statement:  "I am starting a saltwater reef tank what kinds of live rocks are best for a newbe? What live rocks are low maintainance and hardy?"  You did not mention coral until you looked up information and tried to prove him wrong.   Yes there are easier CORAL that does well for beginners, but ALL LIVE ROCK have no maintenance once it is established in your aquarium.  Next time, get your questions straight and dont always try to prove others wrong when you are the one thats the NEWBE.

  2. ^see above^

but to answer the questionany kinds..

there's absolutely NO difficulty in keeping live rocks from any location

all you need is saltwater that's not freezing cold or hot and at a 'normal' salinity and some ammonmia source (fish waste, food, ammonia, etc)

    to prove andy wrong..

should you have actually researched it..

live rock and coral are NOT THE SAME THING

corals in general are not for begginers and need a certain level of care

live rock is a benign material used for more structure and filtration than as a livestock

live rock simply needs to be put in water not too far from normal

i LOVE pwning noobs... and apparently so do these guys

  3. ok, not trying to be rude, but you need to read up a whole lot more if you are asking this question. there is no real difference in live rock EXCEPT if its precured at the store or not cured. i suggest precured AFTER you get yourself somemore books and i suggest finding someone with a salt water tank system to show you how much your about to get yourself into. saltwater systems are tough as h**l to start up but good news is they are simple to maintain after about year or 2. they end  up being quite fun if you fully prepare yourself for it, also make sure you get anything over 55 gallons, its safe for newbies because you get the comfort of a large buffer zone so you dont end up killing everything on accident when you overdose the tank on something--it will always happen once--
