Question:

Starting to get very frustrated with my 800m?

I'm a 14 year old girl, and i run the 800 in about 2.31. The other day, I did a 600 in 1.48, and before that i've done 1.44. It is obvious to me and my coach that if i kept that pace up for another 200m, i would be going about 2.22 to 2.25 for the 800. I wasnt even that tired after my 600, and felt i could have easily gone another 200m. But when I race the 800, i just seem to get scared of being too tired and hurting myself, so I can never race the 800 to my full potential. This has been going on for about 9 months now? And I have an 800 race this weekend and i finally want to break out of my shell?

  1. for a girl 2.31 isnt bad. but seriously, girls shouldnt be running in the first place so just dont run 800 meter anymore.


  2. your coach is stupid if you average out the times and you get 2.22.your body is tired so you can't keep that same pace

  3. your body doesn't handle pacing very well then. maybe you take off to fast and can't keep it up, w/e,

    but work on it by starting at a better pace and save a little speed for that final stretch

  4. I think that you are letting it get to your head. I know because I have the same problem. The best advice I can give you is to not think about running 800 meters. Just run! Just run the race. Don't worry about how far it is, just give it all you have.

  5. It sounds like you're physically due for a solid performance and your problems are all mental.  The problem with that is the half is one of the toughest races, mentally, to run.

    Your pacing is fine if you can split a 600 in less than 1:50 in a workout without too much trouble.

    So you really just have to learn to endure.  Get angry.  Psych yourself up for the race and convince yourself beforehand that you're going to PR, no matter how much it hurts.  After all, if you don't even have the mental fortitude to leave everything out on the track when you race, why bother to compete?

  6. it could be pacing, the poster above me has a good point, but it could also be that you're just hitting a plateau, or a wall. your body may be used to the workouts you're doing and so not progressing as it was before so maybe try switching your workout up a bit

    i got a killer workout if you wanna try it, but its more built for 200-400 m races
