  1. you will have cross country races in the fall (sept-nov) and you will run track in the spring (march-may)

keep up the running. run almost every day throughout the summer, taking one day off every 10-15 days or so.

also when you train do it at a slightly uncomfortable pace. start at about 25 miles a week, or whatever feels comfortable. increase slightly up to about 40, or 45. or somewhere in that area that feels ok.... but do not continually increase, take a few down weeks... your total weekly mileage should look something like this...(25,28,30,26,32,35,34,37,38,34,40... also do a long run once a week, starting at about 6 or 7 miles working up to 10.  closer to season you should start working in some speed session. do repeats of 800m in 2:50 or so..(depending on your ability) do about 4 with a lap jog between.

when cross country ends take a week off completely, then another week of light running. then you can start for track. you will probably do the 3200m 1600m or 800m. so get back up to 30 or so a week, with a little more intensity than before, just before season starts do 300m and 400m repeats. and you'll be set. trust me..the training is h**l.. but the joy of the success that results is unbelievable...so go for it!

  2. yah you can get faster    i would do 400meter intervals at you goal race pace.  and then do tempo runs on other days.  and no its never to late to join track

  3. i just finished my HS track season, and i also know what it takes to be a good Xcountry runner. If you keep up your running through summer, you will b varsity distance in my opinion. NOBODY on the distance team at my school runs 5 miles per. day in the off season. keep it up u r going to b a beast.
