Starting up a cafe?

I am really interested in starting my own cafe that serves all healthy food that I will cook and prepare myself. Do you think a cafe like this would do good in the Tampa/Clearwater/St.Pete Beach Florida area? If so, what do I have to go to college for to be able to have my own cafe like this? Thanks so much

  1. Well you might want to reconcider opening a business that serves food. Starting a business that serves food is the most high risk business that is out there. For instance, lets say you just recieved a shipment of food, the food you just recieved could be bad. If you serve bad food, and the people get sick, the food company is not respondsible, you are. There are a lot of situations like that. Plus, not to mention there is just too much compitition out there.

  2. no what you need is years of experience working the front of the house and back of the house in a restaurant, if you do not I would hire people who do,, the rest bizz is cut throat with lots of competition and the failure rate is very high.... not that you wont make it but be prepared.... god speed

  3. You should study business management and/or hospitality management in college. (Yes, there are degree programs specifically for people who intend to go into the restaurant industry.) For cooking, you probably ought to go to a dedicated culinary arts school.

Some people open cafes without a college education, but knowing how to run a business is an important skill if you want to be successful.
