Starting your own home business.

Question

My Husband is a retired volunteer Firefighter. He has all the credentials to be a free consultant in home "fire safety" inspections.

How do we go about setting up a home busines in this field? Would he need any special lisence? Just curious how this all works!

Any advice would be welcomed.

It sounds like a profitable and needed service and I wish you the best of luck with turning the idea into reality. It's important to realize that every industry and every city, county, state and country has its own set of rules and permits and other financial and legal stipulations for business that needs to be addressed. There are two organizations that can help you with developing a business plan... SBA and Score. You can get a business mentor that will work with you for free and help answer your questions without guesswork. If you do what you love and love what you do, the money will follow. Use integrity and you'll have customers chasing you instead of having to chase them.

You need to post some additional information so that you can get a good answer.  One of the big questions is where do you live?  Every state has different rules for licensing.  That is where you should start.  I know that in Illinois (where I live) you can go online and look up information about licensing for professionals (http://www.IDFPR.com).  Your state may be the same way.  Try there first.
