Startling revelations from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed!
On Tuesday, Pakistan cricket was yet again marred by another spot-fixing related incident. The latest headache for the Pakistan Cricket Board, comes with the release of a secret video of the Bookie Mazhar Majeed in which he reveals
the names of four more Pakistani players involved in spot-fixing.
According to Majeed, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Imran Farhat are the players who have been involved in spot fixing along with the suspended trio - Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
Mazhar Majeed came into prominence when he was arrested in England for spot fixing in a Test match between England and Pakistan. Majeed had taken money from an undercover journalist working for the British Tabloid “News of the
World”; he convinced the journalist that he held enough leverage on the players to make them play according to his wishes.
Majeed was paid half the money just to see if he could really deliver. Ironically, the three players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif played according to Majeed’s predictions. Subsequently, “News of the World” contacted
the police and gave them the video evidence as well.
Later, this news was disclosed to the rest of the world, which left the Pakistani management and players in a state of shock and dismay. It should be noted here that the tour was not over yet, and the Pakistani team was still in
England as this news unfolded.
The Pakistan Cricket Board and team management had no option, but to suspend the three players from taking part in the remaining matches of the series. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard then searched the hotel rooms of the latter and interrogated
them for several hours.
At that point, no charges whatsoever were levelled against the three players and they were allowed to leave the country. However, the International Cricket Council jumped in and imposed an indefinite suspension on the players from
all formats of cricket.
The former Test captain Salman Butt, has admitted on numerous occasion that Mazhar Majeed was their agent, who helped in getting them sponsorships. Butt refused to admit that he and the other two players, Amir and Asif, were ever
involved in spot fixing with Majeed.
Majeed, the prime suspect in this saga was released on bail, before a thorough investigation was even launched against the players. Now, the bookie has come up with another suspicious video, revealing the names of more Pakistani
players. The authenticity and details related to the video are still unclear. However, ICC might not take the new video lightly and may want to include the four new players in their investigations regarding spot fixing.
If ICC decides to stop the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board from selecting all the players named by Majeed, this may cause a huge problem for Pakistan in the upcoming Cricket World Cup in 2011. Pakistan’s bowling, batting strength will be
completely depleted, and they will have to rely on many uncapped players to come and deliver, which seems a bit farfetched of an idea.
Majeed, in his latest video also claimed that Pakistan’s Twenty20 skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, Abdul Razzaq, Younis Khan and Saeed Ajmal were never involved in spot fixing. After these revelations, it makes even more sense to include
Mazhar Majeed in the ongoing investigations against the suspected players.
