Stat and Overdriven work-out for trainer Todd Pletcher over at the Oklahoma track on 9 August
Trainer Todd Pletcher had a busy day at the Oklahoma training track on 9 August, 2011, when he took out his champion colt, Uncle Mo, for a work out on the field, and he was happy with the rapid recovery his last year's 2-year-old champion colt is making.
Shortly after that, it was the turn of the two springy juvenile colts trained by Todd Pletcher, Overdriven and Stat.
The workouts were for the upcoming stakes that the two 2-year-old colts were participating in, but Stat was the only one who worked.
The two-year-old son of Tale of the Cat, Overdriven, left Todd Pletcher dissatisfied the way he warmed up at the track.
Under the exercise rider, Patti Krotenko, Overdriven made a faulty start to the exercise routine as he entered the track from the wrong entrance and jogged the wrong way up till the stretch.
Krotenko managed to turn the colt around, and he started to jog around with a purpose till the sixteenth pole where his trainer was assessing the colt’s peculiar behaviour.
After a little word with exercise riser Patti Krotenko it was decided the proper work session for the colt Overdriven will be called off, as the clumsy colt exited from where he entered. Overdriven is also owned by Mike Repole just like his fellow stable mate Uncle Mo.
Overdriven broke out to the scene with an emphatic four length victory over J C’s Pride when he was breaking his maiden on 1 July, 2011. The colt was under jockey John Velazquez, and while he was breaking his maiden he also got a 100 Beyer Speed Figure, which is a rare thing to see.
Uncle Mo on the other hand earned a 102 Beyer Speed Figure when he broke his maiden. Overdriven is also the son of Tale of the Cat, who also sires Uncle Mo.
Overdriven is not expected to run until the 5th of September, where he is scheduled to run in the all important Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes which will be held at Saratoga.
Overdriven has already scored a grade 2 victory in the Sanford Stakes over at a distance of 6 furlongs at the Saratoga racecourse on dirt under jockey John Velazquez.
There was another dominating performance in the six furlong dash, where the pair completed the sprint in 1 minute and 10.60 seconds.
The other 2-year-old colt, Stat, is trained by Todd Pletcher, but he is a Bortolazzo Stable owned colt. The son of Unbridled’s Song broke his maiden at Belmont Park in his first attempt on 9 July, 2011 over at a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
Stat’s next start will be the 15 August, 2011, Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes.
