State Bank thrash Karachi Zebras by six wickets in national one-day tournament
State Bank defeated Karachi Zebras by six wickets in a Group A fixture of the National One Day Tournament. State Bank has emerged as a strong team in the domestic cricket of Pakistan, as it has recently won the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 Division Two title.
Karachi Zebras is also a strong team and has the services of international players like Mohammad Sami, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khalid-Latif-c71261 and Shahzaib Hassan. However, they failed to make any impression in this match.
State Bank won the toss at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex in Karachi and invited the home team to bat first. Karachi Zebras made use of the opportunity and piled up a competitive score of 255 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rameez-Aziz-c83818 was the top scorer for the home team, as he remained unbeaten on 76 runs off 94 balls with the help of six fours.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wajihuddin-c95877 also starred for Karachi, as he scored 65 runs off 87 balls, and struck five fours in his knock. Both of them put together 109 runs for the fourth wicket partnership to give their team some stability in the middle of the innings. Shahzaib Hassan
got off to a flying start but failed to convert his innings into a big score. Jalat Khan picked up two wickets for State Bank whereas http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nayyer-Abbas-c78962 claimed a scalp each.
In pursuit of 256 runs, State Bank never looked in trouble because of a consistent performance by their top order batsmen. State Bank chased down the score in the 46th over of the innings for the loss of only four wickets.
Left hander http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naved-Yasin-c2081 was unlucky to be run-out for 65, but by then he had already taken his team to the shores of safety. He used up 64 balls for his knock and struck four boundaries. Naved has been performing quite consistently over the last couple of
seasons, and that is the reason why he was named in Pakistan’s preliminary squad for the 2011 ICC World Cup.
Shoaib Khan was retired hurt after scoring 55 runs off 84 balls with the help of six fours. Former Abbottabad captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adnan-Raees-c42061 also scored a brilliant 51 off just 60 deliveries, which included 4 fours and a huge six. Rameez Alam scored 39 important runs
off 40 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries.
The Karachi Zebras bowling looked completely ineffective in the match, and gave away a lot of scoring opportunities to the State Bank batsmen. Mohammad Sami, Wajihuddin and Akbar-ur-Rehman picked up a wicket each in the losing cause.
It was quite a disappointing performance by the Karachi Zebras, as they were the stronger team on paper, because of the three international players in their ranks. However, the young State Bank side proved that they have definitely become a force in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s
domestic circuit. Credit must go to the State Bank management for building such a good team, which is quite young and can serve them for many years ahead.
